2009 INTERNATIONAL CODES BECAME EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2010
On Nov. 13, 2009, the State Building Code Review Board voted to adopt the 2009 International Building, Energy Conservation, Mechanical, Plumbing and Residential Codes, with an effective date of April 1, 2010.

Information about the State Building Code: On September 14, 2002 the NH State Building Code (RSA 155-A) became effective. Included in the State Building Code, the following codes are currently in effect: the 2006 International Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Energy Conservation Codes, and the 2005 National Electric Code. Please note that the International Building, Mechanical, and Plumbing Codes do not apply to detached one- and two family dwellings and multiple single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories high with separate means of egress. The National Electric Code applies to all structures, and the Energy Conservation Code applies to all new construction and additions. Effective July 8, 2006, the International Residential Code became the Code in force for detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories in height with a separate means of egress and their accessory structures. In addition, the State Fire Marshal enforces the following codes with respect to heating equipment: NFPA 31 for Oil Burning Equipment and NFPA 54 Fuel Gas Code, and both apply to all structures.
Amendments to any of the International codes which have been adopted at the State level (by the State Building Code Review Board), are available by visiting the website of the State Building Code Review Board. For local amendments and other codes enforced by local authorities, you should contact the local building department.
